Great day today! As you see from the new pictures, Arianna has her pacifier back. This is good for her chewing, sucking, and swallowing reflexes. She is also starting to loosen up a bit, and her muscle tone is getting better. The therapists are going to create some casts for her arms tomorrow to help with the spasticity and splints to help with the spasticity in her feet and legs. She will only wear the cast for a few days then they will re-fit her for some better fitting ones and put a little more stretch on her arms. Furthermore, she continues to improve her ability to follow with eye contact. We aren't clear what she see's still, but we know she does see, and does hear as well. When we speak to her, she will look in our direction. And even last night her mom was sitting on the bed massaging her and when she got up Arianna followed with her eyes as far as should could and then turned her head to follow. The occupational therapist did a lot with her today on standing. Not that she can stand, but she held her up on her legs for a long time to see if she had the instinct to keep her legs straight and knees in. She did well. We are hoping.. no ... I am hoping, and pushing for the doctors to find a way to get her off the valium. I really beleive that it is inhibiting her ability to come out of that fog she is in, and the consequences to her muscles would surely be much more easier to heal later if we could focus on bringing her out of that fog first. Of course I'm no doctor, I only know my instincts. I know that she reacts to me and Sarah and her family, and surely that must resemble some sort of cognitive memory that would allow us to push her mentally. Margie, your faith is great and your messages are always grateful that you now know what to ask for after an update. Please ask for an answer on this. Not many pictures I know, but enjoy. It won't be long and we will be posting pictures of her holding her head up, which is me and Sarah's next big goal. Love from us
