Tonight is Arianni's completion of her first week here at TGH. I am going to take just second to tell you what she has been through since Wednesday, April 11. After being revived at Highlands Regional the night of the accident by the awesome people there, Arianna was flown to TGH by the Aeromed unit. I don't know all the medical details of that terrible night (i was told she was gone for half hour), but I know that it is only by the Grace of God and the hands of the medical people in ER that night that she came back. Upon arriving at TGH, she coded again, and had to be stabilized by the team here in PICU (pediatric intensive care unit). There was no room for us to fly over with her, so by the time we drove over that night she had been here for about 2 hrs, and the team here was still stabilizing her. When we finally were allowed in, Arianna had a really fast pulse, was unable to breath on her own, and was on really shaky ground. That was, to date, the hardest night of our lives. Arianna has slowly improved all of her vitals... her pulse has come way down to almost where it should be, she is no longer on any breathing apparatus or even oxygen, and is only being given muscle relaxers, something to help avoid seizures, and some tylenol. She is even being fed Pediasure through a tube that runs into her nose and to her stomach. So all glory to God who can do amazing things. That is a very brief description of everything she has gone through. Now where does she go from here. I believe it may have been the same day that they took her off the ventilator that she started to move a little bit. It was just small twitches in her hands and feet at first, but tonight as I sit here she is moving her hands and legs, and kicks and is very fussy. She opens her eyes for a short period of time, 10 to 20 secs, then closes them and tries again. She seems to have responded to most of her therapy screening positively, responding to smell, touch, sound, and even following the therapist with her eyes. The doctors and neurologist tell us that her brain has been severely damaged, and they do not know yet how extensive that damage is. They say only that we will take it day by day, week by week, which is all we can do. I am skipping a lot of detail on what the doctor's are saying could happen and might not happen. I can say that this team in this PICU is an awesome group of people and really make you feel confident in their abilities. Please keep them in your prayers. That said, my updates on this page will very rarely tell you anything all medical sounding about my little princess. Sarah and I believe only that Arianna is going to fully recover from this. Our faith is in the God that gave her to us, and our prayers are daily full of thanks to Him that she was revived and we can begin this journey of rehab with her. Thank you for all your prayers and we ask that you thank God that his will is for her to totally recover.
